want to send reminders of due dates (e.g 2 days prior ) as well as over due invoice dates

this lines up with my post on providing the ability to set actions on collumns i.e. if a job is in your completed but unpaid collumn on workflow, it will automatically generate a message or send invoice this could be set to occur daily, hourly, weekly....
